6¾” diameter Figured Maple bowl, with blue-dyed exterior
The blue exterior of this striking bowl dramatically highlights the chatoyance in the Figured Maple, which looks to me like draped satin. The colour was hand-painted using aniline dye. Because it is a dye (and not a paint), the colour accentuates the natural grain of the wood, rather than obscuring it.
