8½” tall Catalpa vase with glass liner
The green colouring that fades up from the base of this elegant Catalpa vase was hand-painted using aniline dye. Several applications, using gradually increasing concentrations, created the subtle gradation. Because it is a dye (and not a paint), the colour accentuates the natural grain of the wood, rather than obscuring it.
The glass liner can be easily removed for cleaning.
Catalpa trees are native to Eastern United States. The wood gets its name from the Catawba Indian tribe’s name for the tree, (the tribe itself is also named after the tree).
