Honey of a Bowl

$59

8″ diameter (tip-to-tip) live-edge Honey Locust bowl

Rough, dark bark frames the striking contrast between the reddish-orange heartwood and the creamy sapwood. The off-centre grain pattern and knot one one side gives this bowl an illusion of movement and imbalance, though it is quite stable.

Despite its name, the Honey Locust is not a significant honey plant. The name derives from the sweet taste of the legume pulp, which was used for food and traditional medicine by Native American people, and can also be used to make tea.

The tree this piece was made from grew in a lot across the street from my house.
